‘Blade Runner’ Writer to Re-Team with Director Ridley Scott on Sequel

There is a God!

Original Blade Runner writer Hampton Fancher is in talks to pen an idea for an untitled sequel to the classic sci-fi film for director Ridley Scott and studio Alcon Entertainment.

Alcon and Scott are mum on plot details but they confirm that the story will be set “some years after the first film concluded,” according to a statement released Thursday.

Blade Runner, which hit theaters in 1982 starring Harrison Ford, was an adaptation of the Phillip K. Dick story Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Fancher shared screenplay credit with David Peoples.

The movie was a box-office disappointment when it was first released but has since become one of the most important films in the sci-fi genre. Ford played a “blade runner,” an expert on artificial humans, who is brought in to hunt down several rebellious “replicants.”

Fancher, an actor who appeared on shows such as Gunsmoke, Rawhide and 77 Sunset Strip, wrote fiction on the side. Despite co-writing Blade Runner, his screenwriting career never took off, although he did pen the 1989 crime movie The Mighty Quinn and wrote and directed the 1999 serial killer thriler The Minus Man, which starred Owen Wilson and Sheryl Crow.

Scott is producing with Alcon’s Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove as well as Bud Yorkin and Cynthia Sikes Yorkin.

Frank Giustra and Tim Gamble, who run Thunderbird Films, are executive producing.

Fancher is repped by APA and attorney Matt Saver.

Detroit Film Locations Tour Maps Now Available

Since no actual movie stars live in Detroit we don’t have a Map of the Stars Homes but how about the closest thing to it!

05.31.12
LANSING – Downtown Detroit has provided filming locations for more than 60 feature films, television series and other digital media productions in the past several years, many of which are featured in a new Detroit Film Locations Tour map produced by the Michigan Film Office.

The maps are available at Detroit tourism organizations, including Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau, D:hive, Feet on the Street Tours and Wheelhouse Detroit Bike Shop. Electronic copies of the map are also available on the Film Office website, michigan.org and the Michigan Advantage website.

“Detroit is a star in many of the projects that have shot here in Michigan, as itself and as a double for places including New York City, Boston, Las Vegas, and Paris,” said Carrie Jones, director of the Michigan Film Office. “Taking this tour captures many terrific locations in a way that promotes an all-around Detroit experience.”

The tour starts and finishes at the GM Renaissance Center with 15 stops along the way including the Old Wayne County Building (LOL, Transformers III, Conviction), Harmonie Park (The Double, The Five-Year Engagement), Lafayette and American Coney Islands (LOL,Whip It, Detroit 1-8-7, Food Wars) and the Detroit People Mover Park Avenue station (Alex Cross, The Giant Mechanical Man).

The map also highlights other notable film locations in the city not featured on the tour, as well as a wide number of other tour opportunities available in Detroit.

“Attractions like this film tour help to reinforce the work we and our local partners are doing to promote our vibrant urban centers here in Michigan,” said George Zimmermann, Vice President of Travel Michigan, part of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. “Anytime we can encourage people to explore downtown Detroit it creates positive momentum for our tourism efforts here in Michigan.”

Projects featured in the tour include Detroit 1-8-7, Real Steel, The Five-Year Engagement,The Ides of March, Transformers III, Alex Cross, Sparkle and Whip It.

Work has also begun on film tour maps for other areas of the state to showcase the wide range of locations used in film and television productions here in Michigan.

The Michigan Film Office was created in 1979 to assist and attract incoming production companies and promote the growth of Michigan’s own film industry. The Film Office also administers the incentive program for film, television and other digital media production in Michigan, as well as infrastructure development and workforce training.

Travel Michigan, part of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, is the State of Michigan’s official agency for the promotion of tourism.
